The manager of Upranimal, Danilson Silveira, clarified today that the rupture of animal feed that occurs in the island of Fogo is due to the lack of regular shipping for the shipment of the product.

The clarification was given to Inforpress by the manager of the company of production and distribution of animal feed in Cape Verde (Upranimal), following the agglomeration of people at one of the sales stations in São Filipe, which registered this week, for the acquisition of feed.

According to the responsible, this type of situation had happened before, not with this dimension, when the company spends several days unable to send the ration to Fogo, where it has two sales posts in São Filipe and three other distributors in the area of monasteries and others.

“The problem of maritime connection and lack of regularity, mainly, causes the situation of rupture”, he said, clarifying that since December 16, 2021 they sent the goods to the Fire, it was only possible to send the ration again on January 8, which caused rupture, and that when the product arrived people had to agglomerate, because they were all in need.”

The cargo sent on January 8, as reported, practically sold out, advancing that today they had the forecast to make the shipment of about 40 tons of feed on the inter-island ship, but unfortunately they were informed that it will only be possible to send half of this cargo.

Danilson Silveira assured, however, that to “overcome this difficulty and prevent ruptures”, Upranimal will immediately take the measure of acquiring a larger space in Fogo, of at least 500 tons and start sending more food to the island.

In relation to the increase in the price of the product, the manager confirms that it rose by about 20 percent (%), result of the latest imports of corn made from Europe, in containers, with an increase of almost 30% compared to imports made from Latin America, which made the product more expensive.

“At the national level, there are several weeks without corn on the market, but Upranimal, being one of the importers of corn, can hardly bring, on each import, more than 3,000 tons, because it has no storage space, which leads to the situation of risk and rupture always”, he said, indicated that this increase is automatically passed on to the consumer.

Danilson Silveira assured that currently the concern, until the stock of corn in the country is stabilized, is to have animal feed what has been done on the island of Santiago without constraints.
