The production and distribution company of animal feed in Cape Verde, Upranimal, said it is developing its activity in a normal way and clarified that the stock of corn that it currently has comes from its import.

In conversation with Inforpress to react to the news that reports of the rupture of corn in the national market and the complaint of hoarding made by one of its competitors, the company’s deputy manager, Danilson Silveira, explained that in addition to the production and distribution of animal feed, the company imports the corn alongside Moave and CIC.

“Upranimal is also one of the importers that uses the silos of Porto da Praia. The company has a monthly consumption of approximately 1,200 tons and also has a partnership with one of the importers, which is CIC, and that in some need they reinforce our stock and we still acquire regularly also in Moave”, he said, removing his involvement in the denounced hoarding.

Danilson Silveira clarified that corn being the main raw material of its activity, Upranimal works with its safety stock, not waiting for the iminence of rupture to look for the product.

“Upranimal does not depend on the corn that is on the market, because it makes its own import,” he said, adding that in addition to its import stock, it also purchased some corn on the local market, giving it the margins to withstand the delay in the arrival of the ship.

And to deal with this delay that is being verified in the transport of raw materials, coming from Latin America, from where Cape Verde makes the import, he said that Upranimal has already made the purchase of a quantity of corn in Europe, which will be in Cape Verde in the coming days to strengthen its stock and ensure normality in the production and distribution of feed.

“Upranimal, with responsibility in the market, cannot depend on other importers,” he noted, adding that the company will be willing to make new imports from Europe, although it is more expensive.

In this sense, he said that the company is selling animal feed at all its points of sale and ensures that at least in the short term there will be no disruption of stock of animal feed, which is the main activity of the company that distributes to the islands of Santiago, Fogo and Maio.

“Upranimal, in addition to having responsibility to feed producers, also has responsibility to our population, since it employs about 120 people directly and many others indirectly, who are distributors,” noted Danilson Silveira.
